OSEIA signs the Safe from Hate Jobsite Culture Pledge

Through the efforts of the Metropolitan Alliance for Workforce Equity (MAWE) and others in our region, OSEIA has joined efforts to combat racism and sexism which continue to be prevalent in our construction industry and continue to impact the health, safety and well-being of our BIPOC workforce, as well as LGBTQ+ and women – trades workers who have historically been marginalized, discriminated against and suffered isolation, fear, and assault in their daily work experiences.  While many efforts have been implemented in our community over the years to make a culture change, we have much more work to do as evidenced by the horrific incident on a Portland construction jobsite earlier this year where a noose was hung in an act of violence, threat and intimidation. 

We as a community and industry cannot tolerate such hate.  No one should have to have courage simply to show up at work. Every worker deserves the right to a career with dignity and respect, and one that is Safe from Hate. 

We are asking you to join with us, along with other community-based organizations, employers, trade associations, unions, apprenticeship programs, government and workers in to sign the Safe from Hate pledge as one step in the path to eliminating racism, sexism, harassment, discrimination and bullying in the construction industry here in Oregon.  Join us in standing up to be Safe from Hate, and join us in being a model for other communities.
